Alexandra Headland. There’s nothing more relaxing than sitting at Alex watching the sunset.

Favourite Holiday Destination?
New Zealand, in particular Queenstown. Going back to NZ on a road trip this year with the whole family, Mum, Dad, wife, son & me. I starting to feel like Chevy Chase in Vacation. I’m already singing “Holiday Road”.

Your ideal car would be…?
BMW 4WD, brand new, preferably not stolen. (LOL) If you have one you don’t want, just post me the keys!

What’s the best thing about working at Footworks?
I get to work with my wife, so that’s a bonus. Everyone pulls together instore & there is great teamwork at Footworks. We work as a team & do it my way (LOL). I have a keen interest in shoes & I feel privileged to serve people & help people in any way I can with footwear that works for them. Sports shoes are my passion, but I have 20 years of industry experience & knowledge, so there’s not much about any shoes or workboots or western boots that can stump me these days, but I am always open to learning new things & finding solutions to people’s footwear issues & working out correct sizing is my strength. I’m amazed at how our new Footworks website has opened our doors to clients seeking professional personalised service via the internet. It’s great to be able to communicate with more Footworks friends around Australia.

I was really chuffed & humbled recently to receive the Rotary Achievers Award for my service to the community.

My best recent customer experience was with a husband & wife who visited Footworks looking for comfortable, sturdy footwear as they were going on a holiday to Guatamala & would be doing a lot of walking, hiking etc. After their holiday, the couple came back in to the store to personally thank me & presented me with a gift they had bought especially for me all the way from Guatamala! That was because not only did they have an amazing experience in South America, but most importantly to them, during their entire trip, they never once had to think about their feet! That to me is the rewarding aspect of being part of the footwear industry; it reiterates the impact the simple little things we do everyday have on real people’s lives. If your feet are comfortable, so are you. Wearing the correct footwear does mean a lot to help people out. Life is more enjoyable.

When you’re not at Footworks what do you most enjoy doing in your leisure time?
Spending time with my family, husband Neil & my son Eastyn. When I get some ‘me’ time, I am totally hooked on motorbike riding. I love to jump on my Suzuki Intruder & go for scenic bike rides around the Sunshine Coast, the Glasshouse Mountains & the Blackall Ranges to refresh my mind & clear the cobwebs out.

Salad or Sushi

Wine (Never say no to a Chardy!)

Wherever there’s great shopping, you’ll find me! Nambour Plaza, Sunshine Plaza, Noosa, Caloundra, Buderim, Coolum etc

Absolutely New Zealand’s South Island – been there 5 times & just love it. Heading back again later this year.

Working in a shoe store, exactly how many pairs of shoes do you own?
Countless pairs of shoes. Couldn’t give you an exact number, but it’s a lot. To give you an idea, let’s just say husband Neil had to vacate our wardrobe completely—just to fit my shoes in!

What’s the best thing about working at Footworks?
I love coming to work at Footworks as everyday is different. Shoes & meeting people are 2 of my passions, & Footworks have the BEST customers, so it’s not like work at all. It’s so rewarding & satisfying to know you are helping people every day & see them so happy & comfortable with their shoes. I know I’ve done my job when I hear my customers say, “We’ll definitely be back.” The Footworks staff are a fantastic team to work with. I share myself between the Nambour & Strathpine Footworks Stores & it’s very much like a close-knit family that all get on really well. I get a buzz from being the first to see the new styles when we unpack the stock. This is my 6th year here & I am still loving it.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?
Working at Footworks, it’s hard not to spend some of your cash on shoes. Currently I would have at least 20+ pairs of all different types of shoes.

Aspirations?
On April Fools Day 2009 I received my Certificate II in Retail (yay!). I would like to manage a shoe store one day.

My favourite shoes?
Fashion shoes: Anything pretty.
Joggers: Brooks

What’s the best thing about working at Footworks?
I really like working at Footworks because it’s a lot of fun. You get to meet so many different people, so no 2 days are the same. I enjoy assisting people to choose the correct footwear for their needs. Proper fitting is so important. My favourite part of the store is the Workboots Section! It’s a challenge to find the right workboots as each person’s needs are different. The staff I work with are great. They’ve taught me so much since I have been here. Our team is more like a family; they’re so easy to get along with & make me laugh. Everyone at Footworks has been a mentor to me in some way & I have been like a sponge soaking up their knowledge about shoes, shoe fitting, customer service & the entire footwear industry. I couldn’t have asked for a better start in the workforce, working with people that have passed on so much experience & skill in such a short time. I also found I really enjoy doing the visual merchandising, store & window displays.
